American rock band “3 Doors Down” was formed in a small town Escatawpa, Mississippi, in 1990. Vocalist and drummer Brad Arnold was keen on music since childhood. He beat the plates, lids and other items that he came across. Besides, wandering around the house, he was constantly singing some tunes. When he took a mike for the first time, he eventually understood his mission. With his school mate Matt Roberts they decided to form a band. They invited bass player Todd Harrell, who have already had musical experience.
The title of the band “3Doors Down” came, by a legend, from the inscription on the envelope, that had fallen on the members on their leaving the house. There were “doors down”, and the musicians could only add figure “3” – the number of band members. The band performed their first gig at friends’ party, where they sang only four works, one of which was the cover version of Metallica, another was cover of Kate Bush, and two others - their own songs. By 1997 the trio has written a couple of demos. The guys turned them onto CDs and began to sell them at their gigs. The idea was successful, as the fans bought 2 thousand copies at one performance. Nearly at that time the hit “Kryptonite” was born. Then radio station WCPR in Biloxi, Mississippi, was attacked with phone calls, asking to perform the song of a little-known band. At first the station workers supposed they were relatives and friends, trying to promote a village band. But the number of calls was growing with each day, and it became clear that a new young band, already having fans, appeared. Soon 3 Doors Down gained the attention of the world labels and was popular abroad. They were invited to New York, where they debuted with a gig at the legendary club “CBGB”. The performance had a great success, and the band signed to “Republic Records”, subsidiary label of “Universal”. In the early 2000, the debut long-play “The Better Life” appeared on the store counters. According to the musicians, this was not “alternative”, not “metallica” and anything else, but this was just good old rock’n’roll with good lyrics. That success forced the band to sit in the studio and work on the second album. Daniel Adair was on drums and producer was Rick Parashar, having worked before with Nickelback, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains and Unwritten Law. The record “Away From The Sun” was released on 12 November, 2002. The disc debuted #8 on Billboard 200 and has sold 3 million copies. In 2004, the band founded charity organization “Better Life Foundation” that helps the children and teenagers with special needs, disabled and so on. On February 8, 2005, there was the outlet of the third studio album “Seventeen Days!” that went platinum. The work on their new album was in Nashville with Johnny K as a producer. Besides new album, they were working on a documentary film. The whole number of all albums and singles was 12 million copies. In 2005, a member of the band Puddle of Mudd, Greg Upchurch, quitted the band for 3 Doors Down as the replacement of Daniel Adair. The fourth record of 3 Doors Down with the same name appeared on May, 20, 2008.
