British rock band Arctic Monkeys became famous before the release of their first single. A young quartet was formed in Sheffield, England in 2002. The founders of the band are Alex Turner and Jamie Cook, who got electro guitars as their Christmas presents at the same time. Having learned playing the guitar, school friends decided to form a band. They added bass player Andy Nicholson and drummer Matt Helders.
The name “Arctic Monkeys” was invented by Cook, who dreamed about being a member of the band with such title since childhood. The first musical experiences were held in one of the warehouses of Neepsend. In June 13, 2003 there was the first debut concert in Sheffield. The band got used to turn their demo to CD and present them to their fans. This led to an interesting effect – fans began to make copies and spread them among friends. Sometime later fans made the band’s page in “My Space.com”, spreading their songs via Internet. Due to this the band gained wide popularity among music lovers. By 2004 Arctic Monkeys managed to draw the attention of North Britain and their hits were transmitted by the famous “Radio 1”. Photographer Mark Bull created an amateur video for the song “Fake Tales Of San- Francisco”, which also got into the Net and became accessible for any. In 2005 they released five songs that were introduced as EP under the title “Five Minutes with Arctic Monkeys”. Due to the service “iTunes Music Store” it was distributed through the Net. Soon the band performed the concerts at famous British festivals in Leeds and Rieding. Despite the grown interest of the famous Record Studios towards them, Arctic Monkeys didn’t hurry to contract. The fame they gained during some years was quite enough for successful career. They have proved that a young band is able to become famous on their own. The evidence of this policy was their concert in legendary British hall “Astoria”, where they have sold all the tickets. But some singles and debut album “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” were trusted to “Domino Records”. The first singles of the record “I Bet that You Look Good on the Dancefloor” и “When the Sun Goes Down” topped the leading British hit parades at once. The sales of the album exceeded all their expectations despite the fact that the majority of the songs of the album are in the Internet. So, Arctic Monkeys went on tour across the USA in support for the album. In 2006 the band released EP “Who the Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys?” But the bassist Andy Nicholson got tired of concert activity and soon quitted the band, giving the place to Nick O’Mally. “Favourite Worst Nightmare” emerged in April 2007 and headed hit parades. In January 2008 Arctic Monkeys started to work at the third album. In spring 2009 there was an outlet of the concert album “At The Apollo”, having recorded the band’s performance in Manchester. After this release there came another studio work “Humbug”. The fourth album “Suck It And See” saw the light in June 6, 2011.
