Billy Talent is a a Canadian punk rock band from Streetsville, Ontario is formerly known as Pezz. They formed the band in 1993 with Ben Kowalewiczas the lead vocalist, Ian D'Sa on lead guitar, bassist Jon Gallant and the drummer Aaron Solowoniuk .
The band stayed alive for about a decade before middle-of-the-road success. The members of the band met and played in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Secondary School under the name Pezz and stayed behind in Toronto's indie music scene until 2001. The band renamed itself Billy Talent after running into lawful problems with the old name. It was at that time Kowalewicz's association with an employee of Warner Music Canada's A&R department landed the band a record contract and launched them into mainstream success. Ever since, Billy Talent has made two multi-platinum records in Canada, and continues to get bigger and making their success overseas
Pezz initiated writing, performing songs, and gaining interest and standing at first locally, and in a little while in Toronto's broader indie music scene. Their earliest recording was a cheap 4-track demo. It was recorded in the basement of Ian D'Sa's in July 1994, and was named Demoluca.
In 2002, the band convened with record executives, and ended up signing a co-project contract with Atlantic Records and Warner Music Canada. At the end of year 2003, the band released their full-length self-titled debut album, Billy Talent. The album found substantial sales success. The band received Juno award, (The band won two Junos, Best Album of the Year, and also Best Band of the Year). A track song from the album was titled "This Is How It Goes", and this track was based on one of Kowalewicz's friends who had multiple sclerosis. Later, the band released Billy Talent II, which hit the shelves on June 27, 2006. It fared good business in Canada in its first week, coming at number 1 on the Canadian charts. It also enjoyed momentous success in Germany, where it also came in number 1 in the album charts in its debut week and it was one of the top 10 selling albums in the country.
