James Osterberg was born in April 21, 1947 more famous under the name Iggy Pop is considered to a grandfather of the punk rock. The first band of Iggy Pop in 60s was “Iguanas" and it gave the name “Iggy”. After a failure to study in Michigan University James moved to Chicago where he played on the drums for different bluesman. However the musician was interested in dirty rock-and-roll and he wanted to have the band of his own.
When he came back home Osterberg made true his idea and started “Stooges” and took finally the name Iggy Pop. The band issued three albums and then dissolved. At that time Iggy had two very significant friends: James Williamson and David Bowie who produced the album «Raw power".
That was the period when Pop started to take drugs. And eventually he got to hospital. After the following crisis Pop together with Williamson started making records that he reflected in the album "Kill city". Bowie helped his friend to sign a contract with RCA records" and became a producer of the first Pop’s solo records. "The idiot" and "Lust for life" were more successful than “Stooges”. The album had more popularity in England where Iggy was considered a punk-rock figure.
After the tour and release of the concert record “TV eye” Pop started his solo project without Bowie. In 1979 Pop worked together with Williamson and the album “New values” opened a number of controversial music works. In 1982 Pop wrote autobiography “I need more” in which he wrote about his career. At that period he returned back to drugs.
Again Bowie was the one who helped him. The disc "Blah blah blah" was created under David’s control and brought Pop the first American hit-single ("Real wild child"). Later there was Pop’s record "Instinct". His music popularity increased at the beginning of 90s when grunge bands started to identify him as their teacher. Moreover many famous bands and stars ("Slayer", "Duran Duran", ТомДжонс, "Guns N'Roses", "R.E.M.") started making covers of "Stooges" and Iggy himself.
In the 90s Pop tried himself as actor and played in such movies as "Cry-Baby", "Dead Man", "The Crow II: City of Angels". He stilled continued his music career . After rather smooth "Avenue B" Iggy decided to return back to his special dirty sound in the album "Beat 'em up". In 2003 he got even further and for the record of his another longplay he invited his colleagues from "Stooges” Asheton brothers.
