James Brown was an all-rounder personality in the world of music. His full name was James Joseph Brown. He was a not only a popular American singer but also was a well-known songwriter, musician and recording artist. He was the founder of funky music & acted as a figure of popular music & dance of 20th century. He was known as “The Godfather of Soul” and “Mr. Dynamite”.
James Brown was born on 3rd May 1933 in Barnwell, South California State of United States. He started his career as a vocal artist & then singer at the age of 22 i.e. in 1955. His first performance was in a group called “The Gospel Starlighters” with his sister of Bobby Byrd, a popular initiator of a vocal group. After this performance he joined Bobby’s group based on rhythm and blues genres. With the joining on James Brown to this group, the same was renamed as The Flames. The period of 3 years from 1956 to 1959 showed remarkable jump of James’s career with soothing tracks like “Please, Please, Please”, “and Try Me”, “(Do the) Mashed Potatoes” among these “Try Me” was ranked as first among the 17 chart topping compositions by him.
In the decades of 1960’s & 1970’s also showed upward movement in the career graph of James Brown. In 1962 he launched his album called “Night Train”. But, James Brown’s R & B song hits was only limited to Southern part of United States, so in order to popularize the same into other parts of world he had put his efforts to launch self-financed live show performance called “Live at the Apollo” in 1963. In order to flourish this show & its music legally, he in collaboration with Bobby Byrd propounded a production company called “Fair Deal”. In late 1960’s James Brown refined his funky style of music with the launch of R & B genre composition called “Cold Sweat”. After that he gave year on year hits like “I Got the Feelin” in 1968 & “Mother of Popcorn” in 1969.
But the year 1970 showed some bad impacts for James Brown, that his The Famous Flames band was ruined & Bobby Byrd was only person with him. They didn’t lost hopes & started a new band with the same funky genre songs. In 1973 James Brown made his contribution with his own composition named “Blaxploitation” in film Black Caesar. In late 1980s in association with a production team Full Force with a hip-hop genre launched the album “I’m Real” in which a tack “Static” was topped & ranked 5th in R & B charts. James Brown also worked as an actor in various films like Ski Party, The Phynx, The Blue Brothers, Rocky IV, Holy Man, The Tuxedo etc.
In his career he was felicitated by various awards & trophies. In 1992 at 34th Grammy Awards he won Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the supreme awards in the career of any singer. Apart from this he was honored by 1st BMI Urban Icon at BMI Urban Awards in 2002.
But, soon on 25th December 2006, James Brown had his last breath, died due to heart attack. After his death, in various live shows & ceremonies a tribute was paid by various artists in their performances.
