Katy Perry is a very cheerful, interesting, bright and incredibly talented popular star, an American singer, songwriter and composer. She was born on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (her real name) was brought up by the family of parsons and, as many American children she sang in the choir. She finished Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17. Being a teenager, she changed her surname for Perry (her mother’s birth name), because “Katy Hudson” resembled a famous actress, Kate Hudson.
Perry’s music was greatly influenced by such bands as Queen, Nirvana, Alanis Morissette, Heart, Joni Mitchell, Incubus and others. After Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp signed to Perry for Red Hill Records, she released her debut gospel album “Katy Hudson” in 2001. But the further creative search led the singer to a fully contrary image of a scandalous girl singing about everything young people worry about. Katy is known for her incredibly style of clothing – it’s often humorous, in bright colors, with the usage of the accessories in the form of juicy fruits, like a water melon. In 2004, record label “The Matrix” planned to work with Katy Perry. Before, it recorded such singers as Avril Lavigne, Liz Phair, Hilary Duff, Skye Sweetnam, Korn and Britney Spears. But the project was canceled as Katy Perry was offered to sign to Capitol Records. With a producer Glen Ballard, the singer started to record her album, calculating on making it the first commercially successful album for mainstream. The debut single “Ur So Gay”, due to its lyrics and video, was blamed for homophobia. Katy’s developing musical career was reproduced by Blender Magazine as “The Next Big Thing”. Her first full-length album “One Of The Boys” was released on June 17, 2008. On April 29, 2008, her first official single from the album, “I Kissed A Girl”, debuted in iTunes shop. The song started to Billboard Hot 100 on № 76, and on June 25, 2008 it peaked at № 1. The single “Hot n Cold” was Perry’s second single that got into the Top 5 in the USA and reached № 7 in the UK in a month before its official release. After the release of the singles, in August, Katy released her third album “Teenage Dream”. In support of the album she went to the world tour “California Dreams Tour”.
