Maroon 5 is an American pop-rock band founded in Los Angeles. The history of the bad dates back to 1995 when Adam Levine (vocals, guitar), Jesse Carmichael (guitarist), Mickey Madden (bass-guitar) and Ryan Dusick (drummer) were the seniors and studied at the same school. The name of their band was “Kara’s Flowers” and they performed indie rock at that time. Their first official concert was in September 1995 in Los Angeles club “The Whisky”. The spectators of the stage debut were several hundreds of the club visitors that valued the band’s temperament and energetics and only then they paid attention to a nice blend of pop music, punk and rock.
Having toured with the written work across the stages of Los Angeles and its suburbs, in 1997 Kara’s Flowers signed to Reprise Company and set to work on the recording of a debut album. Their studio producer was Rob Cavallo. The long play “The Fourth World” was ready in summer 1997 and warmly accepted by the musical press. The critics called it a good example of the alternative rock of the late 90s. But the album wasn’t successful, it sold just 5000 copies. As the result, in 1998 Kara’s Flowers broke up, and Levine and Carmichael went to Long Island to continue their education. There they were introduced to hip-hop and R&B culture, what changed their conception about music. In 2000 Levine and Carmichael came back to Los Angeles and with Madden and Dusick, they recreated Kara’s Flowers but with new sounding. They signed to Octone Records and at that time they added a new guitarist James Valentine and changed their name to Maroon 5. The musicians debuted with the album “Songs about Jane” released in 2002. The record was named so in honor of Levine’s girlfriend, and all songs were devoted to the relations between a man and a woman. In May 2007 the band released their second album “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long” that became a real hit, having sold nearly 500 thousand copies in a week. This record turned to be more diverse – the texts became more lyrical, and the music with the shade of retro brought back the songs of Michael Jackson and Prince. During the five years between the releases of the albums, Maroon 5 actively toured, resulting with a concert album “Live - Friday the 13th”. There was also another consequence – Ryan Dusick expired from the band because of the injury and was replaced by Matt Flynn. In 2010 the band made glad his fans with a new studio album “Hands All Over”. This powerful record drew the attention thanks to the interesting lyrics and the original powerful sound, as Maroon 5 managed to successfully combine the elements of rock, funk, R&B and pop music. Their latest album “Runaway” was released in 2011.
