Muse is a British alternative rock band which was formed in 1994 in Teignmouth, Devon. Today Muse is called one of the great heritages of rock music of a new millennium. The music as if arrived from another Galaxy, passionate performance, the strongest theatre vocal, masterly guitar, powerful live performances, all that is the Muse! The official lineup of the band is as follows: Matthew Bellamy (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion). The sessional musicians of the band were Morgan Nicholls (keyboards, samples, backing vocals, percussion, bass), Alessandro Cortini (keyboards, samples, backing vocals, percussion), Paul Reeve (backing vocals in “Showbiz” and “Absolution”), Jacqueline Norrie (violin in “Origin of Symmetry”), Sally Herbert (violin in “Origin of Symmetry”), Clare Finnimore (viola in “Origin of Symmetry”), Caroline LaVelle (cello in “Origin of Symmetry”). The style of Muse combined all incompatible – hard rock and high classic, the highest music professionalism of the performers and savage grunge aggression, incredible power of sounding and subtle beauty of harmony.
The formation of the band began in 1992, at that time the present members of the band were performing for different projects. At the beginning, they’ve changed a lot of titles of the band: “Carnage Mayhem”, “Gothic Plague”, “Rocket Baby Dolls”, “Fixed Penalty”, and only later they became “Muse”. Having composed enough material, the guys decided not to enter the university, but to take music seriously and devote themselves to it. They began their career not with stadiums and signing to labels, but with small rock clubs and bars. The first listeners and fans began to appear after the gigs in Manchester and London. Later, they met the owner of record company “Sawmills”. Other labels refused to sign them, as their work resembled Radiohead. After their records became popular beyond England, an American label Maverick Records organized several performances in the USA for Muse. After that small tour, there were offers to sign by the labels from Australia and Europe. After the release of the album “Showbiz”, the band went on tour as a warming-up band for Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. While recording “Origin of Symmetry”, the musicians began experiments with mellotron and church organ. That album was characterized by a more transference of the emotions, and subtle lyrical mood of depressive nature. The album “Black Holes and Revelations” was the best work of the band. It has sold over 100 thousand copies (for a week) across the USA, Japan and England. The songs from this outlet topped many charts. Soon it went platinum. In three years, on September 14, 2009, the release of the fifth studio album «The Resistance» emerged in the British music stores. Shortly before, it was released in Italy (on September, 11). The USA and Canada saw the release later than the others, on September, 15. On May, 17, 2010, Muse recorded a new single “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)” that became a soundtrack for “Eclipse”.
