In 2009, Moore released the EP Gypsyhook with the name of Sonny. He opened for Chiodos while they toured in Europe. Sonny would also open for Hollywood Undead in the United States. Before changing his name to Skrillex, Sonny was also known as Twipz when he played at clubs around Los Angeles.
Moore toured as Skrillex in 2007 as part of the Alternative Press Tour with bands All Time Low, The Rocket Summer, and The Matches. Skrillex was featured on the cover of Alternative Press magazine in its annual “100 Bands you Need to Know” issue.
His first album as Skrillex was the EP My Name is Srillex, which was released in 2010. The Album was released as a free download.
The extended play Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites was released in 2010 and earned five Grammy nominations including the nomination for Best New Artist.
Skrillex also released two extended play albums in 2011 in More Monsters and Sprites and Bangarang.
Moore has reached success as Skrillex and had notable songs featured in commercials for video games. In 2011, the song “Reptile” was featured in a television commercial for a new Mortal Kombat video game. “Kill Everybody” was heard in trailers for the highly anticipated video game Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Skrillex’s biggest success may have come in 2011. The re-launch of MTV’s hit television show Beavis and Butthead used a music video of Skrillex’s “First of the Year (Equinox) in its pilot episode. The clip helped Skrillex gain popularity in the United States.
While a member of From First to Last, Moore was a part of two albums: Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count (2004) and Heroine (2006). From First to Last’s biggest song was “Note to Self”, which received radio airplay and was a music video in rotation on MTV.
Voltage is the title of Skrillex’s first studio album, which has a tentative release date of 2012. The title song “Voltage” was played during Skrillex’s last concert tour.
His most successful song to date has been “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”. The song from the extended play of the same name had success in 2011 in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. In Sweden the song reached number twenty. In 2012, the song charted and enjoyed success in Canada and the United States. In the United States, the single reached number sixty nine on the Billboard chart and was seen as a part of the Billboard Heatseekers Songs at position number three. The song sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone.
Skrillex is working on his first studio album and also touring the United Kingdom.
