After their break-up in 1970 each member of the band started the career of a solo artist. The formation of the band began in 1956 when John Lennon (1940-1980) with his fellows formed a group "The Blackjacks", later "The Quarrymen" in honor of their school Quarry Bank. They played sciffle, the British homegrown kind of rock.
