Weezer is a famous band, performing in a specific style of geek rock. The band was formed in 1992 and before its split in 1997, they have released two albums. In 2000 Weezer revived and feels well up to present, having sold over 7 million records worldwide. The characteristic feature of the band is to perform in quite a botanic style. Since the very formation of the band nobody behaved like a rock star. They were common guys, playing in the band in their leisure time. Nevertheless, the band has managed to popularize the so called geek rock and their songs “Undone (The Sweater Song)”, “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain't So” became great hits in 1994 and 1995.
The frontman of the band Rivers Cuomo (born on June 13, 1970) spent his childhood at the small farms of Connecticut. By 18 years old, he’s got tired of the remote life and went to Los Angeles to seek his fortune. While studying at high school, he had played at a lot of metal bands, and when he entered the college he became interested in alternative and post punk. But at that time his girlfriend abandoned him, and, being upset, he began writing songs, trying to slop his feelings. Having accumulated enough material, he formed his own band, Weezer. The band included Matt Sharp (bass guitar, backing vocals), Patrick Wilson (drums, backing vocals) and Jason Cropper (rhythm guitar, backing vocals). Approximately for a year they performed at a club stage of Los Angeles. Then, somehow, the band has managed to sign DGC label and got to recording debut album. The producer of the album was the former frontman of the band “Cars”, Ric Ocasek. During the sessions, there were some changes in the lineup. Cropper left the band to work at his own project “Cropper one”. He was replaced by Brian Bell. The first record “Weezer” appeared in 1994. Label didn’t spare money for its promotion, and also they released video to the song “Undone” (The Sweater Song), the director of which was Spike Jonze. And also due to the hit song "Buddy Holly", the popularity of the band reachedgreater acceptance. Despite such success, the activity of the band has stopped for a while, as Cuomo had to go to Howard to finish his education. Sharp and Wilson were creating their project “The rentals” at that time. In spring 1996 they all gathered together again to record the second long play “Pinkerton” that turned to be more interesting in sounding. However it didn’t get the required promotion and it has sold less copies then the previous platinum album. To improve the situation, the label released a hit thing “The Good Life”. However, by the time the single saw the light, the demand for guitar punk pop, performed by Weezer, had fallen and radio refused to transmit it. After the support tour of “Pinkerton”, the career of the band began to decline, the guys had to think well over their further work. Sharp couldn’t bear the tense and quitted the band to concentrate on his work in “Rentals”. Bell and Wilson also were engaged in site projects, but didn’t leave Weezer. In 1998 they hired a new bass player Mikey Welsh, and in 2000 they decided to record the third album, the producer of which again was Ric Ocasek. Released in May 2001 "Green album" immediately took the world by storm and peaked at #4 on Billboard chart. During the tour in 2001 Welsh fell ill and was replaced by Scott Shriner from “Broken”. With his participation they released the next album “Maladroit”.
